matzah bakery

Kids can get into the holiday mood by becoming part of the Pesach story. The kids hear the story in a hands- on, interactive method - highlighted by the 10 plagues and crossing the sea. Then each child dons their own bakery cap and apron and gets to make matzah. This has been very popular over the past few years in cheder, in our dagplej, and in Carolineskolen.

Happy preparations to one and all!... ( Read More » )

Chametz- begone!

The Loewenthal team aided by my amazing sis Raizel, my brother Meyer and Chidah of california, are hard at it, getting into every last nook and cranny to get rid of unwanted leavened particles. Why are we moving all the furniture and fridges, etc to get rid of some crumbs? What does that have to do with the Pesach story anyways? Anyone heard of Moses saying, "Halt Israelites, have you cleared your camel sacks of bread? Not really, there wasn't any time for that. So what's all the cleaning got to do with the exodus?

Its not just about the crumbs or about spring cleaning. At the same time as I sweep up the chametz, I try to make an internal cleanup. I try to search within me for those unwanted morsels - those unwanted traits I... ( Read More » )

We are revving up for a gr8 purim over here. Here are the 4 mitzvot of Purim, hear megillat esther sat. eve and again on Sunday, (we will be having a few readings over here, be in touch for timing), send mishloach manot (food baskets) to friends - or at least to one friend, matanot le'evyonim- charity (at least to 2), and eat a festive purim meal. We will be doing all 4 at our purim party on Sunday plus another popular purim tradition, see above image to give you a clue :).

A joyous and inspiring Purim to everyone! ... ( Read More » )

The battle of two wolves

It ain't Religion, Its the battle of self.

The battle of two wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grand son thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
