Another Reason to Eat Kosher Thank U, Rabbi, so much for those lectures. Wanted to comment that an additional reason to eat kosher at restaurants and at home is because it makes it quite difficult - if not impossible - to eat at a non-observant Jew's house, much less a non-Jew's house, due to non-kosher plates and dishes and glasses etc being used. The importance of eating together in celebrating occassions and daily life means that most business and personal relationships - at least on the culinary side -will only take place with equally observant Jews. To have a fuller view, would love to hear a discussion on this aspect of Kashrut. Reply

My Chabad rabbi and his wife have eaten in my home when I figured out how to make it possible. (They are dear friends and although I keep kosher in some ways, I'm not frum.) Here's what I did...
1) I covered my dining table with a new plastic tablecloth.
2) I used only disposable plates, serving utensils and eating utensils.
3) I served foods in their original containers or packaging with the kashreth symbol. No, I could not serve them home-cooked food, but that's okay, I had them over for for brunch and served a variety of store-bought yummies. They ate well, kenahorah, and we all enjoyed ourselves! Reply

The Mediterrean Diet: Is It Kosher Diet? I enjoyed this talk very much and yes I have been enlightened about the why and what Kosher is..David Mitchell posted on 23rd Jan2012 about howhard it is for him to keep this Kosher Diet in Nashville...I am a non-Jew but have been drawn in here for some time and am partner with Chabad.and take ALL seriously..I now know that part of Kosher is 'The Law' which I accept..the remainder was interesting to me too..so I wondered if the Mediterranean one was similar...will check this out though..thanks..I understnad now.. Kosher Meat and Fish I have been told by a Chassidic Rabbi that we are not allowed to consume the flesh of predators or scavengers as they pollute the soul. What is your opinion of this? Reply

In the Torah, while talking about Kashrut laws and birds, the Torah does not give any signs of what birds are unkosher. All it states is a list of birds we cannot eat. Most of them are predators or scavengers, so most Jews do not eat any. Reply

Mediterranean Diet Not very familiar with the diet. As long as the foods eaten are in the parameters of what is discussed in the lecture, you should be on the right track.
